EI
has had a profoundly negative impact on insurance protection
for women of all ages.
In
the first five years of EI, from 1996 to 2001, the gap in
insurance protection between men and women more than doubled.
Coverage for men fell from 45% in 1996 (before EI) to 44%
in 2001.
Coverage
for women over the same period fell from 39% to 33%.
